Recently all soccer clubs were made aware of the verbal and in some cases physical abuse referees have endured while refereeing matches. This has even happened in games as young as under 9.
Of course referees don’t get everything right, of course they might miss some things but to receive verbal and physical abuse for it is simply is not good enough and should not be tolerated by any football club.
Knocklyon United as a football club and as a community is completely against this and will be making every effort possible to support the referees. They are an integral part of the game and without them, there’s no matches.
With that in mind, next weekend Knocklyon United will run campaign to support the referees who officiate our games. Before kick-off, our home teams will stand behind a banner along with the opposition team and the referee, maybe other clubs could follow suit.
